Golf GTI is a performance-oriented model that will come as a CBU and will be a halo product for VW. After a long evaluation of the Indian market and demand, Volkswagen has finally decided to bring the Golf GTI to India. It is strongly expected that the company’s most awaited car will arrive in the Indian market by August 2025.

The performance-oriented Golf GTI will become a CBU and halo model for Volkswagen. Expected to arrive by August 2025, the souped-up hot-hatch will be brought in under the government’s homologation-free import route (up to 2,500 units a year are allowed), and act as an aspirational, halo model for Volkswagen India. In 2016 the Polo GTI was introduced in Indian market, in limited numbers.

In the new Golf GTI, there is a bump in power, advanced & updated infotainment software and some cosmetic changes.

The latest update for the Golf GTI was revealed in April this year, and it came with minor cosmetic changes, updated infotainment software, and most importantly, a bump in power. The familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine (EA888) now produces 265 horsepower, up from the previous 245 horsepower. The torque remains the same at 370Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels only.

2025 Upcoming Electric Cars

The most important part is that the company is claiming a 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds for the updated Golf GTI (0.4 seconds quicker than its predecessor). Along with it this model also has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. Other key features include progressive steering (which adjusts the steering based on the car's speed), an electronically controlled front axle differential lock, and an optional adaptive suspension that can adjust to different driving conditions.

The latest Golf GTI is a Volkswagen, with a sleek hatchback design and sporty touches. It comes with 18-inch ‘Richmond’ diamond-cut alloy wheels (19-inch wheels are optional), GTI badges, and red accents, such as a red strip above the illuminated VW logo on the bonnet and red brake callipers. The car also has bold front and rear bumpers, with large air intakes on the front, surrounded by a black finish, and the rear features the iconic twin tailpipes and a diffuser. Additionally, there’s a dual-tone roof spoiler.

Like other newer, more premium Volkswagens sold overseas, the Golf GTI comes with Matrix LED headlights and 3D-style LED tail-lights. Both can be programmed to show welcome and goodbye light patterns, which can be selected through the infotainment screen. The 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen has been updated with better graphics and simpler menus, and it now includes a voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. Besides the classic tartan seat upholstery and GTI steering wheel, the digital instrument cluster features GTI-specific graphics, and the push-to-start button pulses red before the engine starts.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Price

When the Volkswagen Golf GTI arrives in India, it is expected to be priced around Rs 40 lakh. At this price, it will compete with cars like the Mini Cooper S, which is currently priced from Rs 44.90 lakh and comes with a 204hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. If Skoda decides to bring the Octavia RS to India (it's currently being evaluated and will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025), the Octavia RS will also be a competitor to the Golf GTI.
