Tata Nexon got a 5-star rating in the BNCAP crash tests

2024-10-18

The 5-star rating applies to all 121 petrol and diesel versions of the Nexon.

The Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) announced today that the Tata Nexon, both petrol and diesel versions, received a 5-star rating for adult and child occupant protection. This means the ICE Nexon now joins the electric version, which also achieved a 5-star rating in May.

The Nexon tested was the Fearless Diesel AMT model. However, following standard NCAP practices, BNCAP has calculated scores for other versions as well. The Nexon received a total score of 29.41 out of 32 for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), with the crash test dummies showing good or adequate ratings for all parts of the body tested.

For Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Nexon scored 43.83 out of a maximum of 49 points. This score is just slightly lower than that of the Nexon EV, which received 29.86 for adult occupant protection and 44.95 for child occupant protection.

Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) explained

The BNCAP program, which has been in development for a while, officially started in December last year. The Tata Harrier and Safari were the first cars tested, and both received a 5-star rating. The Bharat NCAP protocol is very similar to the GNCAP protocol, with one key difference: the maximum score for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) is 34 points in GNCAP and 32 points in BNCAP. Both protocols give 16 points for front and side impact, but GNCAP adds two extra points for seat belt reminders—half a point for each front seat and 1 point for the second row.
