Tata Motors' much-anticipated Nexon CNG, which was first shown as a concept at the Bharat Mobility Show in January, will be launched soon after the petrol and diesel versions of the Curvv coupe-SUV are introduced on September 2.
Tata Nexon CNG: Gearbox Options
The Nexon iCNG concept displayed at the Bharat Mobility Show featured a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, sources say that Tata Motors will also add an AMT automatic option to the Nexon CNG lineup.
In terms of appearance and features, the Nexon CNG will look the same as the standard Nexon SUV, both inside and out, with the same equipment. However, there might be a few mechanical upgrades to the suspension to accommodate the CNG system, and it will have some iCNG badges to set it apart from the regular models.
The Nexon CNG will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine found in the petrol version. This will make it the first CNG vehicle in India to feature a turbocharged engine.
With the addition of an AMT gearbox, the Nexon will become the third Tata vehicle to offer a CNG-AMT combination, following the Tigor and Tiago.
The Nexon will remain one of the few models in India offering a wide range of powertrain options, including CNG, petrol, diesel, and even an electric version. The Nexon CNG will be targeted directly at competing with the Brezza CNG in the market.
