The Curvv is the first widely available SUV in India to offer a diesel engine with a DCT (dual-clutch transmission).

Tata Motors will launch the entire Curvv line-up, including the EV, petrol, and diesel variants, on August 7. While information about the Curvv petrol and EV models is already available, the diesel model will feature both a dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a standard manual transmission.

  1. Tata Curvv diesel DCT will be a 7-speed unit
  2. Will be the only diesel DCT in the segment
  3. Will come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine

Tata Currv diesel DCT will take on Creta, Seltos diesel AT

The Curvv diesel will be powered by the reliable 1.5-liter engine, which is also used in the Nexon. This marks the first time a mass-market SUV in India will feature a diesel engine paired with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT). However, this combination isn't entirely new to India; premium models like the Skoda Kodiaq and Superb have previously offered it. Additionally, Skoda and Volkswagen have provided the Rapid and Vento sedans, respectively, with this setup. In contrast, other diesel SUVs in the segment, such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, use torque converter automatics.

Tata Curvv: powertrain line-up

Tata Motors is going all out with the Curvv’s powertrain options. It will include a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine delivering 120 hp, a new direct-injection turbo-petrol engine generating 125 hp, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with both manual and 7-speed DCT options. Additionally, the Curvv will be available with an EV powertrain from day one.
