In January 2025, Tata Motors led the electric vehicle (EV) sales with 5,047 units sold, surpassing MG, which sold 4,237 units during the same period. However, this marked a decline for Tata, as it had sold 5,802 EVs in January 2024, reflecting a 13.01% decrease year-on-year. MG, on the other hand, saw a significant increase, with a 252.2% growth compared to January 2024, when it only sold 1,203 units. Mahindra secured the third position, with 688 units sold in January 2025, slightly down from 784 units sold in January 2024.

Tata and MG’s growth has undoubtedly come on the back of portfolio expansion with Tata adding the Punch and Curvv EV while MG added the Windsor EV in 2024. The new additions have been significant successes for their respective companies with the MG even bagging the honour of Green Car Award 2025 by ICOTY. Tata has the largest EV portfolio in India and will add the Harrier and Sierra EV to their list later this year. A total of 11,266 EVs were sold in India in January 2025 as compared to 8517 units in January 2024 resulting in a growth of 32.38 per cent.
