The Enyaq iV, originally planned to launch in 2024, was supposed to be Skoda's first electric car in India. Although its launch has been delayed, Skoda India's brand director, Petr Janeba, mentioned that the car will now be released by September at the latest, in an interview with Autocar Professional.
Interestingly, Janeba didn't confirm whether the Enyaq iV, which has been planned for India since 2023, will still be the first electric vehicle (EV) here. The Enyaq has been shown a few times at the Bharat Mobility Show and has also been spotted testing on Indian roads. However, while Skoda was reviewing its EV plans for India, Enyaq received an update globally. And no, it's not the updated version of the Enyaq that's confirmed for launch in India.
Latest Skoda Cars in India 2025
“We now have the Elroq, which is also based on the MEB platform. So, the Elroq, Enyaq and the Enyaq Coupe are three cars based on the same platform. We will take the final call on which of these three will be coming to India after the EV policy from the government is finalised by March 2025,” explained Janeba.
The EV policy announced in March last year proposed a much lower customs duty of 15% on imported electric vehicles (with a cost, insurance, and freight value of USD 35,000 or more), but only if the carmaker invests at least Rs 4,150 crore and sets up an EV manufacturing unit in India. Without this investment and setup, the import duty on such cars would be between 70% and 100%. The policy also requires companies to achieve a certain level of local production.
The central government is still reviewing the draft guidelines for the updated EV policy. The final version is expected to be completed by March 2025, after discussions with stakeholders.
The Elroq, revealed in October last year, is 4.49 meters long, making it slightly smaller than the Enyaq, which is 4.65 meters. The Elroq was also showcased to the public at this year’s Auto Expo.

Skoda seems to be waiting to fully assess the EV policy before making a decision. Whether it's the Elroq or the Enyaq, both will be brought in as full imports. In the meantime, the company has already started working with Volkswagen on developing a localised, India-specific EV platform for its future vehicles.
Skoda Kodiaq is going to be launched in Q2 2025
Meanwhile, Skoda India is preparing to launch the second-generation Kodiaq in India during the second quarter of 2025. Janeba mentioned, "We will begin production of the second-gen Kodiaq by the end of February." The new Kodiaq will be brought in as completely knocked-down (CKD) units and assembled locally. The older-generation Kodiaq, in its fully-loaded L&K variant, is priced at Rs 40.99 lakh (ex-showroom), so the new-gen model is likely to come with a slightly higher price.
