On Thursday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that affordable air taxis will soon be available in India as the government gets ready for new air travel technology. He spoke at the Aviation Ministerial Conference in Delhi, highlighting that the growing middle class is a major factor in the aviation industry’s expansion. The two-day conference was attended by almost 300 people from 29 countries.

 

PM Modi mentioned that air travel is now more accessible and affordable due to the regional connectivity scheme. This program, known as UDAN, helps people from smaller cities fly more easily. Since its start, around 14 million people have used this scheme, showing improved connectivity and increased demand in the aviation sector.

He also highlighted that India is the fastest-growing aviation market in the world, with airlines having ordered 1,200 aircraft so far. He noted that, while the sector is expanding rapidly, it needs ongoing technological advancements and a skilled workforce to continue thriving.
