Volkswagen is all set to launch its brand new and most awaited SUV, Tera, in India. Well, VW Tera has a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine similar to the Taigun and some similarities to the upcoming Skoda Kylaq.

Volkswagen has been working on a new SUV, which is expected to be less than 4 meters long. This new model has now been named the "Tera." This has led to speculation that VW might bring the Tera to India, and there are several reasons why this could make sense for the Indian market.

The Reasons VW Should Bring The Tera To India

Volkswagen should come up in India with its all-new SUV Tera for several reasons and the first reason is that the Skoda is all set to launch its Kylaq sub-4m SUV globally soon which will hit the Indian market in 2025.

Another reason why Volkswagen might bring the Tera to India is the shared platform between Skoda and Volkswagen. The upcoming Skoda Kylaq, which will be made in India, uses the same platform, engine, and gearbox as several existing Skoda and Volkswagen models already available in India, like the Virtus, Slavia, Kushaq, and Taigun. This platform-sharing makes it easier and more cost-effective for both brands to launch new models in the country.

Let’s know About The Volkswagen Tera

You might know that the VW Tera was teased in October 2024. We got a glimpse of the upcoming Volkswagen Tera, revealing that its front design will closely resemble that of the new Volkswagen Tiguan. Somewhere it has a similar headlight setup, grille, and bumper also. The thing notable is that, unlike the Tiguan, the Tera will not feature the LED light running through the grille.

The VW Tera is built on the MQB A0 platform, the same platform that supports models like the Polo, T-Cross, and Nivus in international markets. However, the Tera will be positioned below the T-Cross (which is known as the Taigun in India), making it a more compact and affordable option in the SUV lineup.

The Tera in Brazil will come with a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, similar to the ones found in the lower variants of the Taigun and Virtus. This engine produces 115 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. It will be available with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
